THINGS TO DO IN KENT FOR COUPLES: 40 IDEAS FOR YOUR NEXT DAY OR NIGHT OUT IN KENT.
Before we started travelling full time, John and I both lived in Kent in the United Kingdom. This is still technically the county that we both call home and we continue to visit from time to time. Subsequently we know all the ins and outs and the best things to do in Kent for couples.
On our recent trip back to the UK, we were reminded exactly why we love Kent so much. It is a beautiful region of England, with bustling towns, beautiful countryside and lots of active things to do.
This is our guide to the best 40 things to do in Kent for couples. Whether you are visiting Kent, or living in Kent and looking for ideas for your next date – read on to find out more.
40 things to do in Kent for couples – a Map
We’ve put together a map of all our favourite things to do in Kent for couples. Use this map to tick off a few things in the same area and plan a great day out.
40 things to do in Kent for couples
Here are 40 amazing things to do in Kent for couples.
1/ The Lighthouse Champagne Bar in Folkestone
Folkestone is shedding off it’s old image and reinventing itself with Champagne and it’s famous lighthouse. Now visitors are sipping an ice cold glass of champagne whilst overlooking the ocean. This may not be the first image that comes to mind when you think about Folkestone.

On a recent visit, I was completely taken aback by the revamped Harbour Arm Folkestone. Get it on a sunny day, and you could easily be promenading in the Cote d’Azur, rather than Kent – perhaps this is why Folkestone is twinned with Boulogne-sur-Mer. What could be more romantic as something to do for couples in Kent than this?
The rest of the Harbour Arm is filled with street food stalls and a variety of other places to enjoy refreshment. Whilst in Folkestone, check out the Creative Quarter too – an area for artists & makers. A great place for nose for crafty bits & pieces.
🏙️Visiting from London?
Find more information on the Lighthouse Champagne Bar in Folkestone here.
2/ Visit a vineyard
Kent has around 50 vineyards at last count. Now, I haven’t visited every single one (just yet), but I can tell you that the ones I have visited are absolutely gorgeous.
For couples looking for things to do in Kent, visiting a vineyard is ideal. What could be more romantic as a date than sipping locally grown wine, surrounded by vineyards in the garden of England?
Whether you want to take a tour & tasting or just pop by to drink wine by the glass – there are plenty of choices in Kent.
My ultimate favourite vineyard in Kent when it comes to things to do in Kent for couples, is Hush Heath (Balfour Winery). There’s a huge terrace that is just spectacular in the summer, plus you can take a walk around the vines for free – and it’s dog friendly!

🏙️Visiting from London? If you’re coming from London, Hush Heath is handy on the train too – just take a direct train to Marden train station (less than one hour on the train). The vineyard will arrange a shuttle for you too if you contact them in advance. Alternatively, if you want to visit more than one vineyard, consider booking a guided tour.
Find our guide to Hush Heath and our other favourite vineyards in Kent here.
3/ Visit a tap room or brewery
Explore Kent’s vibrant brewery scene. There are many quirky tap rooms popping up around Kent.
One option is to visit Shepherd Neame in Faversham, Britain’s oldest brewery, for a tour and tasting. Northdown Brewery is also popular, with a very hipster vibe in Margate. My personal favourite is Westerham Brewery in West Kent (near Sevenoaks), a fun place which also sells Gluten Free Beers.
🏙️Visiting from London? Trains from London Victoria to Faversham take just over an hour so Shepherd Neame is a good option for you. Faversham is also a delightful town and worth a visit in it’s own right.
4/ Antique shopping in Hastings
Although technically in East Sussex, Hastings is close enough to warrant a visit. When you think about Hastings, you might think about arcade machines, mini-golf & fish and chips. It’s true that part of Hastings is that typical (slightly scruffy) British seaside town. But, the other part – the Old Town is a stark contrast.

The Old Town is filled with antique stores and artsy shops. My favourite store is A G Hendy & Co, a homeware turned hardware store. It is unassuming from the outside, but a delight once you’re in. Filled with trendy home items and vintage bits and bobs.
The Old Town has wonderful character, and if you’re not browsing stores, you’ll be able to take refuge in one of the trendy coffee shops or jaunty old pubs.
For something a little more educational, you can visit the Hastings Fisherman’s Museum – a small independent museum dedicated to all things maritime. You can also stop by Hastings Contemporary, an art gallery with regular exhibitions.
🏙️Visiting from London? Direct trains from London Charing Cross or London Bridge to Hastings make this an easy day trip.

5/ Beach walk in Hythe

Hythe is an upmarket seaside town in Kent. It has a long pebble beach, perfect for a romantic stroll. There are boutique stores to explore as well as some fantastic restaurants. The Hide & Fox was recently awarded a Michelin Star, or for a more laid back affair, try The Lazy Shack which is right on the beach.
Hythe is very close to Folkestone too, so if you have time you could tie in a visit to both towns.
🏙️Visiting from London?Just catch a train from London St Pancras to Folkestone, then a short bus ride to Hythe.
6/ Visit Chartwell and Westerham

Explore the home of Winston Churchill at Chartwell. Today, Chartwell is a National Trust property that you can visit. We recommend around 3 hours here to see the entire estate.
Afterwards, visit the quaint market town of Westerham. I recommend calling into Quercus Wines, where you can browse their unique store and sip a glass of wine looking out to the village green.
🏙️Visiting from London? Accessible by train to Sevenoaks, followed by a short bus journey.
7/ Enjoy lunch at The Sports Man in Seasalter

Seasalter is located just up the coast from the more well known Whitstable. It is my favourite spot in Kent for a beach walk, as it tends to be quite quiet and there’s a long stretch of beach to enjoy. Sometimes, you can also spot seals in the water.
After a walk on the beach, stop by the marvelous Sportsman Pub – a popular Michelin star venue. Be sure to book ahead to secure your table. They offer a five course tasting menu for £80. Or, if you visit mid-week, you can get a three course menu for £55. If you’d rather, you can normally grab a table outside for or in the conservatory for a drink without a reservation.
🏙️Visiting from London? Travel by train from London to Whitstable, then a taxi to Seasalter.
8/ Take a country walk
Kent offers countless walking trails through its scenic countryside. The North Downs Way provides spectacular views and accessible trails from various train stations along the route. But, there are lots of walks in whichever part of Kent you are in.
The website Explore Kent is a super resource to help you find the perfect walk for you. Some of my favourites are this Shipbourne Circular walk in West Kent, this 10 mile walk in Benenden and the Linear Walk from Hythe to Folkestone
9/ Cozy up in a countryside pub
My number one thing about being in Kent is getting cozy at a countryside pub. Visiting a pub has to be one of the most romantic things to do in Kent for couples.
Some of our favourite haunts to visit are The Woolpack Inn in Warehorne, The Rock in Chiddingstone, The Bottle House Inn in Penshurst and The Tiger Inn, Stowing. All of which have access to delightful walks, should you want to partake.
10/ Join a pub quiz
One of our favourite things to do when we are back in Kent is to head to a pub quiz. There are many throughout the county on different days of the week. One of our favourites is at The Guinea Pub in Tunbridge Wells, but there are many to choose from. Check the website Use Your Local to find a pub with a quiz near to you.
11/ Visit Tunbridge Wells
For couples seeking a blend of history and relaxation, Tunbridge Wells offers an enchanting getaway. Stroll hand-in-hand through the historic Pantiles, a Georgian colonnade where you can shop, dine, and enjoy live music. Look out for Jazz on the Pantiles events that take place throughout the summer.
One of the prettiest green spaces in Tunbridge Wells is Dunorlan Park with its beautiful lake and gardens. Cap off the day with a romantic dinner at one of the laid back eateries on Camden Road – Cantuccio makes excellent sourdough pizzas.
🏙️Visiting from London? Trains run frequently from London Charing Cross.
12/ Visit Canterbury and see the Cathedral
Canterbury, steeped in history and romance, is perfect for couples. Start your visit at the stunning Canterbury Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with breathtaking architecture. Wander through the cobbled streets and explore the quaint boutiques and bookshops.
Take a leisurely punt along the River Stour for a unique view of the city’s medieval buildings and tranquil gardens. Enjoy an afternoon tea at one of the charming cafes. You can also book a walking tour of the city to learn more about the history.
🏙️Visiting from London? Trains from London to Canterbury are frequent, making this a convenient day trip.
13/ Eat Oysters in Whitstable

Whitstable is renowned for its oysters and laid-back quirky seaside charm, making it a must-visit for couples. Whenever I have time, I always visit Whitstable – a place that has fond memories as a young child. Stroll along the pebble beaches, browse the local art galleries, and sample fresh seafood straight from the boats.
The town’s picturesque harbor and colorful beach huts provide a quaint setting for a leisurely day out, topped off with a stunning sunset over the Thames Estuary.
The most famous restaurant in Whitstable is Wheelers Oyster Bar. It is a small place and it can be tricky to get in and is quite expensive. For a more casual affair, walk along the Harbour Market to nibble on some seafood, before grabbing a drink at the Old Neptune pub.
🏙️Visiting from London? Trains from London Victoria provide a direct route to this charming seaside town.
14/ Explore Hever Castle

Hever Castle offers a romantic backdrop steeped in history, perfect for couples visiting Kent.
Explore the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, wander through its stunning gardens featuring a romantic Italianate maze, and take a peaceful boat ride on the lake. The castle’s atmosphere brings Tudor history to life, making it an ideal destination for a day of exploration and photography.

19 THINGS TO DO IN DEAL FOR A WONDERFUL WEEKEND. A trip to the British seaside used to make me think of noisy amusement arcades, salty chips, and overfed seagulls swooping for leftovers — maybe even a stick of rock for the train home. But after visiting Margate last year, I realised the Kent coast…

MARGATE OR RAMSGATE FOR A WEEKEND AWAY. Until recently, I’d only thought of Ramsgate and Margate as those slightly tired seaside towns from visits as a child.
