The Camino del Norte is the first Camino route that we walked and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Sentimentality aside, this is the ideal route for lovers of the sea. It travels along the coast from Irun, near to San Sebastian, all the way to Galicia before travelling inland to Santiago de Compostela.
This is the route for you if you like sea views, windswept beaches, seafood & white wine. Anyone craving peace and tranquility will also enjoy the Camino del Norte. Although it is increasing in popularity, it is nowhere near as well trodden as the other Camino routes.
Here are some of the most popular sections of the Camino del Norte to walk. Do note, we can create a completely bespoke itinerary for you – so you don’t have to limit yourself to the choices below.

The walk from Bilbao to Santander, is a personal favourite of Emma from Lotus Eaters Travel. This section of the Camino del Norte takes in two of the most spectacular, but underrated cities in Spain. Both offer fantastic food and will delight gastronomy enthusiasts.

In between the two cities, you’ll experience the best of Northern Spain’s coast line. From the historic town of Castro Uridales with it’s quaint harbor, to the vast white sand beach of Laredo, not to mention the fabulous surf beaches of Samos.
