Trondheim located in Norway’s central region facing the Artic Circle has recently gained popularity as an alternative destination in Norway for a stag/buck’s bachelor party destination. We explore in this article why this city sitting on a Fjord of nearly 200,000 inhabitants could be a great weekend getaway.

Is Trondheim worth visiting?

If you love small cities with loads of outdoor space and an easy going vibe then Trondheim could be well worth visiting. The city has some amazing views over the Fjord, while in town itself it’s buzzing with restaurants and tonne of breweries. Of course Trondheim is still fun during the winter months but temperatures do average -4C while in summer they reach a pleasant 20C.

Is Trondheim expensive for a stag bucks party?

A common conception about Scandinavia and especially Norway is that the prices are near the top of the list for most expesnive countries in Europe. While this is true there are ways to cut the bill while here. There are budget hotels and hostels in the centre of Trondheim you could stay in for just over $100 fior a double room. Not bad if you bunk up. While alcohol wise there are happy hours and if you tend to stick to beer rather than wine of spirits this will help the bank balance as well. Perhaps the biggest expense you will have while in Trondheim for a stag weekend is dining out. It should also be noted that the exchange rate is favourable currently (2023) with the Norweigna Krone falling in value against most other currencies.


How to get to Trondheim?

The easiest way to get to Trondheim is by plane. At the time fo writing 2023, there were few direct flights from major cities in Europe to Trondheim. Your best best is to fly to Oslo and change there. The airline for both flights will often be the same. Flight time from Oslo to Trondheim is around 1 hour. It’s also worth mentioning how cheap flights to Norway can be compared to other European destinations, sometimes only $10. For latest flights check Skyscanner.

Is alcohol expensive in Norway?

Yes alcohol is expensive when compared to countries like Spain and Portugal. However there are ways of buying cheaper booze when on a stag/buck’s outing. Consider going to happy hours of which there are numerous. Also try to hit up the supermarkets and head to one of the parks. Large cans of beer are usually around $3/4. Some of the highest mark ups on booze comes in restaurants. A beer in a restaurant in Trondheim can cost around $12-$15.

Where can I get a sim card?

Need a sim card on landing or about to fly off? Rather than the hassle of finding/getting a physical sim card, an easier method these days is to get an e-sim. Simply select the country or region you are in and get data and calls on your phone. More info can be found here.

Prices are reasonable, usually only $25 for 20GB of data. We now always use this method when travelling as it just saves so much time and bother!

Trondheim being connected to water has some great options for activities, including boat tours along its Fjord. In conclusion does Trondheim in Norway make a good stag/buck’s destination? For those that have been on many stag do’s this could make an excellent choice for something different to do. The prices however do limit the amount of fun that could be had compared to cheaper destinations.
