AGIOS GEORGIOS PAGON: IS THIS THE MOST UNDERRATED BEACH TOWN IN CORFU?

We arrived in Agios Georgios Pagon after a long, hot day walking the Corfu Trail – and honestly, it couldn’t have been a more welcome, or beautiful sight. We descended down the donkey trail that hugs the cliffs, and as we turned the corner, the whole bay opened up in front of us. Bright blue sea surrounding a slither of sand.

We hadn’t heard much about this part of the island before our trip, it doesn’t make the typical “must visit” lists, but it quickly became one of our favourite beach towns in Corfu. Low-key, peaceful, and framed by green hills on each side.

In this blog post, I’ll set out why we liked Agios Georgios Pagon so much, the best things to do and where to stay.

Is Agios Georgios Pagon worth visiting?

Agios Georgios Pagon is absolutely our sort of town. We love to stay in laid back beach resorts. Places which offer a handful of tavernas, one or two decent bars and miles of quiet beach.

The beach has shallow water, plenty of space to stretch and reasonably priced sun loungers. If you like to keep your vacations low key, but have all the handy facilities that you need – Agios Georgios Pagon may suit you.

We visited as a couple, but the town could suit small groups of friends and families too.

Absolutely. If you’re looking for somewhere to slow down and enjoy Corfu’s natural beauty without the crowds, Agios Georgios Pagon is ideal.

Best things to do in Agios Georgios Pagon

Agios Georgios Pagon is ideal for a relaxing holiday. Still, there’s more than enough to fill a few days here.

1/ Walk the donkey trail for the view

We walked into Agios Georgios Pagon on a path referred to locally as the donkey trail (a section of the Corfu Trail).

Although we walked across the whole island, this one particular view down to Agios Georgios Pagon and the islands beyond, just completely sticks in my mind. As I turned the corner and saw the view, I genuinely had a few tears. It’s just blue, everywhere.

The path takes about 45 minutes to walk to the top where the amazing view can be seen. Walk south along the beach, continue along the path and eventually you will reach the trail (here on google maps.)

2/ Spend a day on the beach

The beach at Agios Georgios Pagon is long and sandy, with plenty of space even in peak season. You’ll find a few organised sections with sunbeds and umbrellas, but also long stretches of empty sand where you can just lay down a towel and relax.

We found sunbeds for €10 (2 beds and an umbrella). Prices vary up to €15, for the more plush beds on the front row.

3/ Try watersports

For a change of pace, there are several places along the beach offering watersports. You can rent a paddleboard, kayak, or pedalo, or try your hand at jet skiing or parasailing.

Check out Sun Fun Club Watersports & or Dimitris & Babis Boats.

4/ Visit nearby Pagoi village

A short drive inland takes you to Pagoi, a traditional Corfiot village with stone houses and quiet streets. The village had its moment of fame in 1981, when it featured in For Your Eyes Only – the James Bond film.

A visit here will give you a glimpse into something a little different to the coast. We recommend visiting the ceramics store for a browse and an excellent coffee. If you visit at lunch, there are a couple of restaurants in the centre of the village.

5/ Explore Paleokastritsa

One of Corfu’s most famous coastal spots, Paleokastritsa, is only about 20 minutes away. It’s busier than Agios Georgios Pagon, and for that reason, we don’t recommend staying there. But for a day trip, it’s well worth it to see the gorgeous coves and bright blue water.

The town can feel a bit hectic, as can the beach. But you can take a boat tour to see the coves in a more relaxing way.

6/ Catch the bus to Corfu Town

Regular Green Buses connect Agios Georgios Pagon with Corfu Town, making it easy to spend a day exploring the island’s capital, even if you don’t have a car.

It’s a lovely contrast to the quiet of the beach. Visit the Old Fortress, meander around the old town and maybe take in a museum or two.

7/ Enjoy cocktails at sunset

Sunsets on the west of the island are unrivalled. As the sun drops, grab a table at one of the beach front bars to enjoy an early evening cocktail.

We loved sitting with a glass of ouzo or a cold Aperol Spritz at Vistonia Bar.

8/ Dinner at a quiet taverna

Evenings in Agios Georgios Pagon are all about slow, simple pleasures and eating well.

The beach is lined with tavernas, from small through to sprawling. The stand out for us was Trattoria Katoi  – set back a little from the water and serving excellent local food and carafes of wine.

9/ Take a boat trip

If you’re craving a bit of adventure, book a boat trip to explore nearby coves and hidden beaches.

Prices vary, but expect around €40 for a half- or full-day tour. Corfu Adventures offer sailing trips on yachts every day at either 09:00 or 14:00.

10/ Simply slow down

The real charm of Agios Georgios Pagon is how easy it is to do nothing. Spend a lazy morning with a coffee in your balcony, relax with a book and swim as many times as you like.

Where is Agios Georgios Pagon?

Agios Georgios Pagon is on the northwest coast of Corfu, about 35 kilometres from Corfu Town. It’s a large bay surrounded by green hills, with a long sandy beach that forms almost a perfect horseshoe shape.

How to get to Agios Georgios Pagon

From Corfu Town, it’s about an hour’s drive along winding mountain roads, with plenty of scenic stops along the way.

There’s also a Green Bus service (usually the line to Agios Georgios via Paleokastritsa). Services are regular in summer but less frequent in the off-season, so check timetables in advance.

If you’re walking the Corfu Trail, Agios Georgios Pagon makes an ideal overnight stop – a peaceful place to rest after the hill stages to the south. For us, this was day seven on our journey from Kavos.

Where to stay in Agios Georgios Pagon

This small town has a lot of great accommodation to choose from to suit any budget.

BUDGET: We opted for Kostas studios, and had such a wonderful stay. The beds are SO comfortable and we had everything we needed here.

MID-RANGE: Katoi Studios is very close to the beachfront and ideal for anyone who doesn’t want to wander far from their sun lounger.

LUXURY: Vistonia is beachfront and offers loungers with umbrellas for guests.
