Can Jordan in the middle east really be considered a good stag/buck’s destination? With stag parties seeking more exotic locations I travelled to the country and found out whether there was enough to do to make an epic stag weekend. As with all my findings I will judge the location by the activities available, entertainment and finally value for money.

Getting to Jordan
Jordan is 5 hours flight away from London and numerous flights per week. The best way to get to Jordan is rather than flying to the capital Amman is to fly to Aqaba in the far south of the country. You can snap a return flight with Easyjet for under £200. Being in this part of the country gives you better access to the main itinerary you’ll be attempting over 3/4 days. I will discuss this all later in this blog. But for these prices Jordan can initially be considered a good stag/buck’s destination
Where to stay in Jordan?
Jordan accommodation can be surprisingly expensive and comparable with western Europe. If you are travelling with a large group consider bunking up in hotels or hostels in groups of three. See below for latest prices.

First question – can I drink on a stag/buck’s party in Jordan?
Yes you can drink in Jordan! And especially in Aqaba where I will advise you to be initially based. The city operates as a tax free area and drinks here will be the cheapest in the country. A pint of beer will set you back around £4 in a bar, wine can be a bit on the pricey side at £6 a glass here. Alcohol to drink in an Airbnb or hotels can be purchased from a liquor store for reasonable prices, around 60% less than bars.
Is Jordan safe for stag’s/bucks parties?
Yes Jordan is safe. People here are friendly and speak English well. However you may be overcharged for things if you are not aware of prices. Here are some practical guides to how much basic things should cost. (At the time of writing, Nov 2022, 1 JOD = 80p GBP)
- 1 litre bottle of water – 0.5 JOD
- 6 litres bottle of water – 1.5 JOD
- Schawarma wrap – 1.5 JOD
- Falafel wrap – 1 JOD
- Bakery goods – 0.5 JOD
Where can I get a sim card?
Need a sim card on landing or about to fly off? Rather than the hassle of finding/getting a physical sim card, an easier method these days is to get an e-sim. Simply select the country or region you are in and get data and calls on your phone. More info can be found here.
Prices are reasonable, usually only $25 for 20GB of data. We now always use this method when travelling as it just saves so much time and bother!
Do I need a car?
I would advise not getting a car. Having organised tours to the main activity sites mentioned below will be much more easy. As you in a group this will not work out as expensive per person. Shuttle buses to the private beach clubs are free. We had a car while we were here and found the system very bureaucratic. Make it stress free for yourselves and go on organised tours.
Aqaba – starting destination for your Jordan stag.
Aqaba located on the Red Sea has a pleasant warm climate with beaches, a good option for a winter stag and good base for your Jordan stag party. The best option in the day is to buy a day pass for one of the private beaches. Why not just use the public beaches? Unfortunately you will not be able to drink in public here. Also any female members of your group may not be able to wear normal beach swimwear. We went to Berenice private beach club which costs 13 JOD for a day pass and free shuttle.
Some great ideas for activities in Aqaba.
Berenice beach club has a great atmosphere, pumping tunes, and the hostesses there organise competitive games of darts and volleyball throughout the day. Drinks are decent but not that cheap, expect to pay 6 JOD (£7) for a pint of beer. While we were there however service was a tad slow. The beach has a range of activities including snorkelling, yoga, diving boat trips and kayaking. You won’t be bored here on your Jordan stag.

Heading off the beach, the best area to go for a more buzzy atmosphere is the yacht club located by the marina. Here you can visit bars and restaurants, we tried Neptune bar which had great selection of beers and played 80’s music.
What activities are there for stag parties in Jordan? 2/3 days – Petra
No trip to Jordan would be complete without a visit to Petra, a true wonder of the ancient world and a main reason why Jordan can be considered a good stag/buck’s destination. The best way to do this on a stag/buck’s party would be to arrange a tour that left from Aqaba early in the morning arriving at Wadi Musa (Petra’s location) mid morning. This gives you the whole day till sunset to explore the ancient ruins. We have a comprehensive guide for Petra here if you are interested. After exploring head back to Aqaba for some more good times.
Here are some ideas:

What activities are there for stag parties in Jordan? 4/5 days – Wadi Rum
Ok so you have visited Petra and now have the taste for more of Jordan. Then you should head to the beautiful national park of Wadi Rum and stay the night in the tents of the Bedouins. It won’t be a traditional staggy activity as there is no nightlife but, one night under the stars is one of the best things we have ever done travelling. Highly recommend if you get the chance. We have written about Wadi Rum here if you are thinking of visiting. This is a great activity for smaller stag/buck’s parties and could make Jordan a really special destination.
Some ideas for activities in Wadi Rum:

Win that here are the ratings for Jordan as a stag/buck’s destination.
- Value 6/10
- Accessibility 6/10
- Nights out 5/10
- Activities 10/10
- TOTAL 6.75/10
Jordan scores maximum points for activities as it can offer destinations that are unmatched elsewhere. However the nightlife if still lacking compared to more traditional destinations. If your stag group is in to a more cultured holiday then Jordan could be perfect.
So skip Amman, the capital altogether?
We think Amman has alot to offer but sadly for this short stag/buck’s trip it wouldn’t be avisable to head that far north. If you do have some extra time we have written about What to do in Amman in 48 hours.
(What you’ll be missing in Amman, but hopefully you’ll see on your next visit).
